I once watched a really nice video that explained the fractional reserve banking system with a simple cartoon. It really changed the way I thought about money and our banking system. I’ll post the first part here and I recommend you watch the remaining videos. It is a 5 part series. You can find the rest of the videos by searching “money as debt” on Youtube. You can also order them online at MoneyasDebt.net. I have to admit that it gets a little ‘conspiracy theory’ like at the end, but what great independent production doesn’t?

It’s fun thinking about how our banking system works, but ultimately many of us just have to operate within the system we are given – we can’t necessarily understand it all but we know that if we do “action Z” that “action Y” will result.

Very true, we are really all just parts of the system.
