Bethenny Frankel appeared as an original cast member on the BRAVO show The Real Housewives of New York City and 4 years later show launched her company SkinnyGirl Cocktails in 2009. Two years later, in April of 2011, Frankel sold her SkinnyGirl cocktail brand to Fortune Brand’s Beam Global for an estimated 120 million dollars.
Opportunity. It comes to us each day but unfortunately many of us are not ready to take advantage of that opportunity when it comes. Have you ever looked at those that are rich and or famous and thought to yourself, ‘They’re really lucky’? I hope I’m not the first to inform you, but if I am, so be it. Luck is rare. Think about it. How many times have you ever stumbled upon a million dollars laying on the street? Or falling out of the sky? Luck is something that comes to those ready to accept it.
You have to be prepared to accept what is meant for you. Yes, I do believe that you have something very special just for you, but it requires hard work and dedication. Each day as you put in the work required, you will be able to see more and more opportunities. Here is an example from one of my favorite books, The Richest Man in Babylon. In it, one of the characters wonders if there is a way to attract the goddess of good luck. He relates a tale of how a neighbor became rich. At first the character thought that his neighbor was just lucky, but after discussing it with others; he realizes that his neighbor was ready to take advantage of the opportunities that came his way because the neighbor had the money saved to participate in the investments that had made him fat.
Some may say that Bethenny Frankel is lucky to have been selected to appear on the Real Housewives shows and later start a business but if you take a look at her biography, you’ll see that she already had been putting the pieces in place to take advantage of the opportunities that came her way. She started appearing in short films in 1993 and attended the National Gourmet Institute for Healthy and Culinary Arts in New York. I’m sure that helped when she began to develop her SkinnyGirl line of cocktails. Before she even made it into the living rooms of housewives everywhere, she showed her business acumen by winning first runner-up on NBC’s “The Apprentice: Martha Stewart.”
So you see, it’s not just being in the right place at the right time. You also have to be able to recognize what the right time is and where to go. You have to start putting those pieces into place now to get where you want to be in life. Success is yours if you will just put in the hard work.
Do you see luck in the same way? What are your stories of opportunity coming to you?
